Saree
Saris are woven with one plain end (the end that is concealed inside the wrap), two long decorative borders running the length of the sari, and a one to three foot section at the other end which continues and elaborates the length-wise decoration. This end is called the pallu; it is the part thrown over the shoulder in the nivi style of draping. Saree is a strip of unstitched cloth, worn by females, ranging from four to six metres in length that is draped over the body in various styles. The most common style is for the sari to be wrapped around the waist, with one end then draped over the shoulder baring the midriff. The sari is usually worn over a petticoat, with a blouse known as a choli.
Fall & Edging
Fall is an inner lining patch added to the lower portion of a saree. It extends from the inner border of the saree till the outer end of the pleats. Falls are attached in order to make a saree fall gracefully around the wearer, and also to prevent wear-and-tear and soiling of the lower part of the saree. Edging is the process of hemming on both ends of the saree so that it cannot ravel.
Under Skirt
It is also known as petticoat. Petticoat refers to any separate skirt worn under the saree and Lehenga saree. Sari petticoats usually match the color of the sari and are made of shimmer, satin or cotton. sari petticoat is rarely shorter than ankle length.
Pallu
The pallu is the distinct fancy patterned loose end of the saree that usually hangs in the back of the shoulder. It could either be draped diagonally in front of the torse or could be reversed to hang on the front as well.
Lehenga Saree
In lehenga saree one just has to form simply tuck and drape not pleats like in simple sari. Lehenga saree is easy to wear in party wear as well. Various types of lehenga saree patterns are used according to the style. Lehenga style saree is normally 4.5 meters to 5.0 meters long. The lehenga style saree is worn over a petticoat along with a designer blouse called as the choli, which is the upper garment.
Lehenga
Lehenga or Ghagra is a form of skirt which is long, embroidered. It is worn as the bottom portion of a Ghagra choli.It is secured at the waist and leaves the lower back and midriff bare. Lehenga can be in fish cut, A-line and in traditional form. Lehenga is traditional kind of outfit and it will be set of three piece- Skirt, Blouse and Dupatta. It usually use in wedding occassions.
Salwar Kameez
Salwar kameez known as the “Indian Suit” they usually wear a long scarf or shawl called a dupatta around the head or neck. kameez is usually cut straight and traditional. Shalwar are gathered at the waist and held up by a drawstring or an elastic band. Salwars are cut wide at the top and narrow at the ankle.
Dupatta
orni/odhni, chunri, chunni and orna is a long, multi-purpose scarf which is usaully used with salwar kameez, lehenga and sometime with saree. A dupatta is traditionally worn across both shoulders and head.
Kurti
It is a loose kameez falling either just above or somewhere below the knees of the wearer and worn by women. Women often wear kurtis usually over legging and jeans.
Sherwani
The Sherwani is generally worn for wedding occassion by men. Wedding sherwanis usually tend to have heavy embroidery. People prefer sherwani with churidar pyjama and dhoti.
Kurta Pyjama
It is a loose shirt falling either just above or somewhere below the knees of the wearer and worn by man. Pajamas are usually loose fitting and designed for comfort, using softer materials such as cotton or the more luxurious silk or satin. Synthetic materials such as polyester and Lycra are also available.
Breeches Coat
A Jodhpuri breech is a garment extending from the waist to the knee or ankle, covering each leg separately. Traditionally breeches are tight in the legs, stopping about halfway down the calf, typically have elasticized lower legs, and had a pronounced flare through the thighs that allowed freedom of movement for the person. Coat length will be long upto thighs with breeches.
Indo western
Indo western is fusion of jodhpuri coat and sherwani with trouser. Coat length will be long upto thighs with indo western suit.
Dhoti
This is the traditional men’s garment which can be worn by groom in wedding occassion. In these days it will be pre- stiched with elastic band on waist so you just have to wear it like a trouser.
Scarf
Scarf is a neck accessory which is usually used with jodhpuri suit and indo western. It will come with velcro so you can adjust it on your neck by it.
Brooch
Brooch is a decorative jewelry item designed to be attached to scarf. It is usually made of metal but sometimes bronze or some other material.
Stole
Stole means dupatta which usually used by men with sherwani.
